just a Debut....

I make my debut in a woman's soccer team tonight.

40 minutes for running around

Not sure how it happened. I'm not really known for my sporting prowess

Or even knowing most sporting rules

I should be fine though because this game has no off-side rule.

Phew! I can never quite understand that one

They team is called NFI (No Frickin Idea)

Sounds right up my alley!

Wish me luck!

Getting Closer...

"See you soon"

It is nearly time for my Mum to go to respite and my Dad to have some time off, to relax, to rest, to recharge.

He needs it.

My Mum is kind of tricky. Sort of snitchy. She would not like herself at times.

So. The big decision was made to put her in respite at a wonderful place for a few weeks. It is probably the hardest decision my Dad has had to make, but my siblings and I are very supportive. 1000% supportive.

As I live the closest I am doing the planning, packing, labeling the clothing... whatever it takes to help my Dad with this decision. He is teetering on being indecisive. I gently support and encourage him with every little requirement. He is hesitating...

We won't let him. This is necessary for both of them.

I am doing .... THE DROP OFF!! Yikes! I hope it goes well. She can be pretty insightful at the most unexpected times. Hopefully this isn't one of them. I have banned my Dad from coming anywhere near on the day. More for his sanity really. She will be well taken care of. My little family will visit, do the washing etc.

She will be fine

I am just washing her clothes now. Adding a little calming lavender essential oil to her nighties and dressing gown. A little nursing trick to promote relaxation. Can't hurt really can it?

So think of us next week. We will all be forever changed but hopefully in a good way.

Just Swapping Around...

Well, that old spring fever has hit so with the assistance of an equally-minded furniture swapping guru friend, I changed my open plan dining/kitchen/lounge room around.

I love the reward of planning, envisaging the result. A bit of elbow grease and....

Wallla!

I have since moved a matching single lounge chair down from upstairs and put it with the lounges. I had the family over on the weekend and people congregated to the lounge rather than hanging around the kitchen as much. It was a tad more relaxing.

This lounges notorious for sleeping on. I think it is the shape and the height of the back. Sure enough my brother was asleep in 5 minutes.

What is your favourite room?

just a Celebration...

It was my Mother's birthday last week and I had the Silver Fox' family staying Saturday night and put on a luncheon on Sunday for all the family including my brother and his family, and of course the birthday girl with my Dad. All together there we 14 people including 4 children and 3 dogs. My family is wonderful like that. We all get together to celebrate. The Silver Fox was missed as was my Sister and her family.

I decided to keep the food simple and made a lasagne with a simple green salad. My Dad made focaccia with olives and another with sun dried tomatoes. He is tricky like that.

For the birthday girl I decided to make a cake as a present. As you might remember my Mother hovers in the twilight world of dementia. I decided to hop in the trend bandwagon and make a gorgeous cake. Miss T helped me and used artistic license to ice it.

I used a simple butter cake recipe and made 3 batches but separated them into 4 cakes. The delicate pink graduated palette was separated by jam and cream, giving the cake a delicate strawberry flavour. The icing was made with butter and icing sugar and was kind of sickly sweet really. But, all in all it went down a treat. The cake was h-u-g-e! And even between 14 people there was still half left!
Any ideas on a different sort of icing?

just Orientation....

I think he is pretty cute too!

Master T has come back from is first of two day orientation at his new high school. His sister also goes to the same school and is two years ahead of him. He mentioned this morning that he was quite nervous. I dropped him off at is friend's house so they could go in together to assist with not being totally alone and new.

Big step high school isn't it?

So, how did he go?

He l-o-v-e-d it!

He bounced through the door full of joy telling me about science experiments, home room with his friend and sports. The teacher commented he though Mater T was a great athlete. He had a smile from ear to ear.

He also told me he got asked out by 5 girls!

Oh wait...

1 girl asked him out 5 times for her friend, AND 5 other girls asked him out.

Plus 1 girl 3 grades higher was waving at him quite frequently

He was a little freaked out. Apparently.

Hmmm, were girls always like this?

Now he doesn't want to go back to primary school.

All in all, a positive outcome for the day...

just Away...

Packing Yay!
I am scooting away to a conference. I will be spending a bit of quality time with my sister and her family first and will be hearing about their wonderful overseas holiday: photos, short movies and no doubt some demonstrations.

I have needed to sort the kids, dog, house, work... as the Silver Fox is away and unable to do the sole parent thing. Worse luck for us all...

Have fun without me. Apparently Sydney is having a cold snap which puts the kibosh on my new linen shirt dress with sandals. Never mind. Out comes the coat that the Silver Fox bought me to wear again. Yay!

Need to be up early and still have to check Master T's packing. Last time he forgot undies.  Goodness knows what he was packed this time...

Awkward Moment....

I'm hearing you Charlie Brown... (source)

This cleaning business can sure cause trouble. There was a little... situation today. I'm not sure which I should be more embarrassed about... Let me explain...

Okay, so I busy cleaning drawers, changing furniture around, being ruthless, ruthless, ruthless. Anything that is superfluous is getting chucked out. The rubbish bin is overflowing. I tend to clean something everyday. Makes you feel good doesn't it?

So I was chucking out face creams and potions from my bathroom. You may remember that I tend to be sensitive to e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g so it is usual for me to have a mound of 'nearly new' products used only once. The creams aren't suitable for Miss T so I thought I would give some of them to my cleaner as she has older girls. I carried a pile down and this afternoon and Miss T was going through them. Here is the conversation:

Miss T:      "What are these?"

ME:           "Creams to give Lyn to see if she can use them"

Miss T:       (Opening the containers) "This one is empty?"

Me:            "Oh. thanks, I didn't check it. How embarrassing if I gave her an empty one"

Miss T:       (Picking up a bottle, smelling it, reading it, putting it straight down and staring ahead)

Me:             "What's the matter? Doesn't that one smell nice?"

Miss T:       (Awkward silence. Then), "It's Personal Lubricant"

Me:             "WHAT! I thought it was hand cream"

Miss T:       "Nope. It's Personal Lubricant. With a nice minty smell apparently"

Me:             "Oh. " (I really did think it was hand cream)

Okay, so which should I be more embarrassed about? My daughter smelling my, ahem, "Recreational Assistance Solution" or the fact that I was a mere 12 hour from giving it to the cleaner!!! (Might need to wear my glasses more...)

A Little "J" to Add Zshush...

Well, it is just us and the dog for a while now the Silver Fox has scooted off again. The dog has been waiting by the front door. Aaawww, she is so sweet. Poor Ginger, a few more sleeps yet pup until the Master is home.

I purchased a lovely little "J" the other day to zshush up my home in my family area.

Have a look:
Sea grass to add interest
My little family area
Close up of the sea grass. I love it!!

I have a girlfriend sleeping over on Friday night and we will go to breakfast on Saturday.

Nice huh?

Haven't had a slumber party for a while...

Now This Zigs My Zag!!.....

Okay, a change is needed. Spring has sprung here and a little decorative change is warranted. My decor is basic white: walls, skirtings, architraves... Plain maybe but I have has a lollypop house and a Mediterranean house and 7 years on I can simply change my soft furnishings to make a new look and feel happy.

I had my eye on this:
Aura Inka in smoke...

Somehow a bit of  zigzag does it for me at the moment. However, I am still frugal and a realist. I had the opportunity to buy this set for $60 but hesitated too long and missed out. I was harassed by the "how many quilt covers does a girl need" sort of inner voice.

True.

But. Still I wanted it.

So, when I came upon these sheets, a purchase was made. After a while. That voice was still talking to me but I chose to ignore it.
Stella Zigzag from Adairs
So, I threw it all together and it came out like this:
Clean, crisp, ziggy zag....

My bedroom with a pale blue, white and grey theme
I know, I should have ironed it. Not sure the front cushion goes anymore

My little owl collection is growing

The sheets are really nice to sleep in and bring me pleasure. Master T comes in in the morning for a 'huggle' but has to lie still and not ruckus my bed. (His bed always looks like he wrestled a tiger in the night).

So

What zigs your zag?

 Ciao for now...
