Beauty is Pain...

She looks like her Dad. She has his moustache!

I am introducing Miss to beautifying techniques. She is 16 now and there are things a girl has to do. It is just the way it is. I'm not sure how Miss T will go though but I don't want to put any suggestions into her head.

What am I talking about?

IPL people

IPL for hair removal

Not the most painless procedure I agree but the effects are superb and it is my gift to my daughter. I have had it done and should have had it y-e-a-r-s ago had I but known the freedom of knowing there are no 'growly bits' to check. (Have you seen 'It's Complicated' with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin? Priceless)

But it is not painless. It is a little like being snapped by an elastic band in your nether regions.

Okay, okay I'm not painting a pretty picture but beauty can hurt sometimes

Do you agree? Pain for gain?

I have been priming Miss T into relaxation, finding her 'zen', deep breathing...

But I really want to say 'FOR GOODNESS SAKE DON'T SCREAM!!'

I brought her up. I know how loud she can scream. It used to make my mind go blank and I literally couldn't think. But I'm hoping the fact she is older and their are social norms that she will be well behaved.

There is a machine in the salon called 'Thumper' and it is not for the faint hearted. I was, how shall we say, subjected to the joy once and once only. They said it had something to do with the time in your cycle but people I have never felt anything like it and people, I have had 2 children.

So as Thumper was clicking along it felt like a big claw grabbing handfuls of flesh and ripping it out. I had my eyes shut and I was sure that if I opened them I would see blood everywhere. I had to ask for a rest. No amount of 'zen' was going to help! It was like being tortured.

I said to the girl 'oh, I could tell you all my secrets'. Clearly my thinking was along the lines of the torture and confession scenario. Do you know what she said? I expected a little laugh or a 'nearly finished' or a 'do you need another rest' sort of comment.

Nope

She said 'why, because we are alone?'

What?

She thinks I'm a weirdo!!

'No' I shrieked at her, 'because it hurts so bloody much'

Great, she thinks I'm a weirdo AND we still have a bit to go

It did distract me though because then I was wondering what sort of conversations beauticians have with their clients?

So, no more Thumper for me and definitely none for Miss T either. I will protected her from being a lamb to slaughter plus I have paid for a few sessions so she has to go back.

'Because we are alone' indeed"

How embarrassment!!

  1. That is hilarious. (not the pain, but the conversion.)

    Fondly,
