I smell a rat...

I should probably be embarrassed! But, I'm not . Well, maybe a little. You see Master T got some juggling balls for his birthday which are a great present because he can juggle here and juggle there.  He is a busy boy and is very fond of a quick juggle. So it would seem is something else... (Cue in dramatic music. Maybe a da-da-da!!! to set the mood).  Let me go back to the beginning...

I was walking past the kitchen island the other day when I notice about 2/3 pear sitting on the bench. Nothing strange in that except maybe that the pear was still on the fruit bowl/plate I have on my island. Hmmm, funny thing about a kitchen island is that, well, it is an i-s-l-a-n-d. Stuck in the middle of nowhere. No real access. So, I got to thinking and I decided I had other night time visitors that weren't invited. I thought a mouse really, but climbing up the drawer handles was a bit of an Olympic feat for a little mouse.

So, we were coming home the other night after inviting ourselves again to my parents for dinner and there in the TV room was a dirty rat!!!! Watching us watching him. Miss T did the whole stereotypical rodent thing - screaming, dancing on the spot. It zoomed off towards the garage.... It was rather large.... Gross. So, I plotted its demise and went to bed only to find this in the morning....

Not only had it climbed onto my dining table (uggg!) but it ate one of Master T's juggling balls. Hello! What sort of dirty rat is this? Inside the ball is birdseed. This time I purchased Rat Sack. I'm dreadfully sorry to all nature lovers but it has also been on the third shelf of my pantry AND it ate through some of my Tupperware too!! That was on a totally different shelf with a bit of a Houdini-fling required to get there. I think this definitely falls into the Boy Job category but as the Silver Fox is away... desperate times...

So, I put out the Rat Sack but no...... it skipped over all my strategically placed poison and ate the juggling ball again!! Look, it does have some manners. This time it climbed onto my sideboard to get to the ball, it extracted the seed through the same hole thus making potential patching a breeze! Very considerate. It also had the choice of 2 juggling balls but only ate from the already sampled one.

I need a Nanny Camera because I have visions of Monsieur Rat juggling until his heart's content in the wee small hours....

This does have a plus side. It makes the Tweenies very tidy because I point out that they had better put their stuff away unless they want a big dirty rat nibbling it... Works like a charm...

Ciao for now...

  1. I hate rats! They're very cunning and hard to get rid of. My son left the back window open a couple of weeks ago and one came in and I had to face my fears and chase it out. It was the middle of the night and I was alone with the stupid dog who did point it out to me but then ran away. I then witnessed it slide open the slighly afar screen window and jump out. The glass windows have now been solidy shut ever since. Good luck with getting rid of it! Unfortunately, I can't use poison because of the dog and accept the fact that they live on our large property which is fine as they long as they stay outside!

  2. PS I meant the rat jumped out the window, not the dog and I noticed a typo... that should read 'solidly' shut windows
